Duties

As an analyst on this team, you will be adept at delivering analysis in a fast paced environment, with multiple stakeholders. You will be working across government, across functions, to deliver against a set of objectives and timelines. Our stakeholders include Technology Professionals, Senior Leaders, and commercial companies.

Responsibilities

  • Establish relationships with a range of stakeholders across Government to support delivery of tasks;

Role

Digital performance manager

Duties

The role will lead the team responsible for the Digital Service Standard. This encompasses the service assessments conducted on services right across government, but also the policy and approach of the standard itself and the assessment process. You will work with a broad range of specialists to make sure that service managers across government have the feedback they need to improve the capability and performance of their service, and that the service standard itself is a valued mark of quality, with a reputation for integrity. As a digital performance manager you will be qualified to work across a range of projects and challenges during your time at GDS.

This is a senior post which will require experience of high level stakeholder engagement in addition to regular contact with software developers, content designers and product managers who are developing the service.

The post holder will be responsible for catalysing a revolution in the way in which we measure, assess, and improve the performance of the service.

Responsibilities

  • Support the GOV.UK leadership team in all matters related to the measurement and usage of performance information for the service.
  • Lead the analysis of service performance and advise GDS and on how to collect, store, and present strategic and operational performance information.
  • Lead day to day engagement with government departments and GDS developers to provide the best overall view of performance.

Role

Technical adviser

Duties

Technical advisers in the Office of the Chief Technology Officer carry out a wide range of activities, from actively breaking down complex problems and identifying steps towards solutions, through to guiding and leading individuals (including non-GDS employees) to reach common aims. Technical advisers engage with technical and non-technical people at all levels of seniority.

This role requires an equal balance of technical expertise and excellent interpersonal and communication skills, together with the ability to quickly develop strong working relationships with a diverse range of people inside and outside of government. You will be using your diplomacy and negotiation skills to encourage people to get involved with our work and will regularly be communicating technical ideas to non-technical audiences, clearly and concisely.

The role will help to deliver a successful outcome to the implementation of the Government’s Open Standards Principles, a policy which was published in 2012.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the development and ongoing improvement of the Standards Hub, a website that we use to engage with our users to help us to select open standards for use in government IT. Learn lessons from feedback on the beta site to run a live service that meets users’ needs.
  • Manage the open standards selection process, which is supported by the Standards Hub. Encourage transparent engagement with users of the Hub on existing standards challenges, commission new challenges and identify new resource to help resolve challenges. These challenges are problems that users have which could be helped by implementing open standards in government IT.
  • Act as the authority on the use of the Standards Hub and the process it supports for senior stakeholders, such as challenge owners, providing them with information and advice on leading a challenge, developing proposals and engaging with users.
  • Develop content to help users to understand and engage with the standards selection process.
  • Manage the Standards Hub content, including guiding authors to write clearly and concisely, moderating comments, capturing and publishing meeting notes, publishing content such as proposals and completed standards profiles.
  • Lead on aspects of analysis and research relating to standards challenges, including for example assessment of standards or surveys on implementation.
  • Manage the relationship between expert panels, challenge owners and working groups.

Role

Deputy Head, Performance and Delivery Unit

Duties

The Deputy Head of Performance and Delivery will play a central role in supporting departments to build and operate excellent digital services for citizens and businesses. They will support the Director in running a team of 65, responsible for an annual budget of over £4m.

The Deputy will be responsible for managing teams within the Unit, ensuring that appropriate links are made between them, that they remain focused on the bigger picture, and that strategic or tactical obstacles to achieving their delivery objectives are cleared. As well as providing leadership and advice to Band A team leaders, the Deputy will lead on increasing awareness of PDU’s work within GDS, and on further embedding a data-driven culture across government.

This is a fantastic opportunity to operate at the heart of an exciting and fast-moving digital agenda, and make a substantial contribution to increasing the government’s capability to meet the needs of service users in a radically new way. You will be delivering through a wide range of different experts, from user researchers to analysts to developer teams. You will work closely with senior officials in Cabinet Office and other departments, and have many opportunities to further develop your digital, strategic and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

  • providing strategic leadership and management for the Performance Platform, ensuring that it becomes a successful and scalable product used to improve decision making across Whitehall;

Duties

The role is in the Common Technology Services team in OCTO, which is part of GDS and provides a coordinated service for departments and agencies recognising and supporting them in delivering their mission IT, and helps them generate significant savings, agility and resilience through the provision of common services.

The Common Technology Services (CTS) team will:

  • provide common IT products and services needed by all departments, to help them focus on their own mission IT applications
  • understand the technology needs of departments and the IT market, and will commoditise the best available technology into products that departments can consume.
  • help departments adopt these products by offering a range of professional services covering design, integration, transition and operations and it will provide a route to these products and services both directly and through existing and new frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Find buying solutions for OCTO delivery programmes
  • Execute specific purchases and deals on behalf of delivery programmes including use of G-Cloud, Digital Services Framework and other government procurement frameworks
  • Lead supplier engagement for OCTO

Duties

We are looking for technically exceptional web operations staff to help us achieve our goals. With a strong systems background, you will ideally have a passion for developing the right tooling to create and evolve a resilient and secure platform on top of Infrastructure As A Service and enthusiasm for working in a cross-disciplinary “DevOps” environment. Responsibilities

  • Running the Technology Leadership function of the Office of the Government Chief Technology Officer (OCTO), defining and upholding the UK Government technology position
    • Providing leadership and line management to a high calibre team, fostering a culture that builds digital skills and rewards delivery
    • Responsibility for Technology Leadership group within OCTO, acting as the key interface between OCTO and Government Technology Leaders network;
