On Monday 23rd April, Race Online 2012 handed the baton on to Go ON UK.
Those of you who have followed the inception and development of Government Digital Service will know that we’ve supported Race Online 2012, Martha Lane Fox’s national campaign to help everyone in the UK discover the wonders of the web.
On Monday 23rd April Race Online 2012 handed over the baton to Go ON UK, a new cross-sector partnership whose founders are Age UK, Big Lottery Fund, E.ON, Post Office, TalkTalk, Lloyds Banking Group and the BBC. Martha Lane Fox will chair the Board of this new organisation and continue to provide strategic leadership to this essential agenda.
Go ON UK will have a broader remit than Race Online 2012, focussing not just on getting people online, but on ensuring every individual, organisation and community can enjoy the benefits of the internet. For the first time a national broadcaster, a bank, a utility company, a telecoms provider, a community retail network, a charity and a funder have pledged to work together with support from government to help make the UK one of the world’s most digitally capable nations.
With the establishment of a sustainable funding model, they will continue to launch high profile campaigns such as current plans for ‘Give an Hour – Share the Olympic Experience’ along with other digital projects. GDS is fully supportive of Go ON UK’s ambitions, and will be working closely with them alongside other Government Departments to support programmes such as Assisted Digital.
